SATURDAY NEWS WRAP #100

• Well here's an auspicious little occasion... our 100th Saturday News Wrap! Yes, for 100 editions, we've been gathering up some of the week's left over pop news and plonking it into these news wraps so that you've got something to get your dentures into on a Saturday. No rest for the wicked, however, so let's crack on with this week's edition;

• The search for the next Channel [V] presenter has now entered its final stage, with the network revealing this morning that it's down to just two people - 21 year old Ballarat native Bridget Hustwaite and 21 year old Melburnian Marty Smiley (both pictured left). The winner of the coveted role will be revealed on 'The Riff' next Saturday at 10.30am.
• The title of Delta Goodrem's new single has been revealed via last night's edition of 'A Current Affair'. To be called 'Dancing With A Broken Heart', it's expected to see the light of day within the next couple of weeks. 'Dancing With A Broken Heart' follows on from Delta's recent hit 'Sitting On Top Of The World' and is the second single to be lifted from a new album, reportedly due later in the year.
• Timomatic's new single 'Can You Feel It' is now officially at both radio and digital retail. Sony tells us that he'll appear on 'Australia's Got Talent' this Tuesday night to launch the track, the third from his forthcoming debut major label album, which is "coming soon".
• Victorian charity Aadvark (All About Really Determined Very Amazing Rocking Kids) celebrates its fifth anniversary this year and has enlisted the support of two amazing Australian performers in Gotye and Monique Brumby, who are both set to "help Aardvark provide mentoring and coaching to many more young people." The organisation is also looking for monetary assistance from corporations and individuals, so to find out more, head to their OFFICIAL WEBSITE.
• Celebrated Swedish songstress Neneh Cherry is back - with a brand new LP entitled 'The Cherry Thing'. Created alongside The Thing (a crossover jazz collective), the eight tracker features a selection of carefully chosen cover versions, along with an original by The Thing's Mats Gustafsson. 'The Cherry Thing' will be released digitally in Australia on Monday.
• Shock Records has announced the forthcoming release of the new Delta Spirits album. The eponymous LP, the band's third, is also reportedly the most indicitive of the band itself, with member Matt Vasquez saying, "This album is what we think Delta Spirit is, that’s why it’s a self-titled record, so we could connect our identity with the album." It's out in Australia on Friday August 10.
• After knocking Gotye off the No.1 spot last week, chart darling Carly Rae Jepsen spends another week in the top spot on the Billboard 100 singles chart. Gotye's still hanging on there in second, however, with Maroon 5 still in third. Making a charge for the top, however, is Katy Perry and her latest single 'Wide Awake'. No doubt the powers that be within her label will be doing everything they can to ensure it's another No.1 hit from the album, further extending her record.
• R&B superstar Usher has debuted atop the Billboard 200 albums chart with his latest long player 'Looking 4 Myself'. 128,000 people bought a copy last week, to place the singer in the top spot, ahead of the new Rush album 'Clockwork Angels'. Josh Turner's 'Punching Bag' premiered in the No.4 spot, with Ed Sheeran's belatedly released '+' coming in at No.5.
• And don't forget that you can get an early look-in at what's happening on the charts here at home, with our weekly Chart Watch segment. It'll be live at 9am AEST tomorrow.
