COUNTDOWN TO EUROVISION : Russia
BURANOVSKIYE BABUSHKI : Party For Everybody
Well if this isn't going to be one of the campest things we've ever seen on television... Buranovskiye Babushki is a group of eight women aged between 56 and 76 who have recorded cover versions of some well known English language singles (see 'Yesterday' and 'Hotel California'), but will take to the stage at the first semi final of Eurovision on Tuesday with the original track 'Party For Everybody'. Mainly performed in Udmurt (a regional dialect) and partly in English, the big problem for these talented grandmas will be the Eurovision rules which stipulate that each entrant may only have a maximum of six performers on stage. Though from the looks of it below, the decision has already been made as to who's made the cut and who's out.
Look, they're not the best singers in the world, nor are they the most entertaining act to take to the stage, but we've watched the entire three minutes of this performance and we haven't stopped smiling. The feel-good factor could well take these grannies over the line.
