BUTTERFLY READY TO FLY

We were completely in love with Adelaide songstress Butterfly Boucher's debut single 'I Can't Make Me' - so much so that nine years on, we're still proudly in the possession of the CD single. Second single 'Another White Dash' was to follow, along with Butterfly's debut LP 'Flutterby' (also still in the collection) and six years later, her second album.
After casting off the record company ghosts, working with Missy Higgins on her upcoming album, performing with Sarah McLachlan and playing in the band Elle Macho, Butterfly has emerging anew from her creative cocoon and is about to set her self-titled third album free.
The release has been preceded by the arrival of the lead single '5678', which made an appearance on iTunes a couple of weeks back as its 'Single Of The Week'.
Up-tempo, left of centre and oodles of fun, the track is undeniably fresh and Butterfly is, understandably, extraordinarily proud of it.
"This song makes me super happy. I wrote it with my friend Katie Herzig - we decided to take on the challenge of writing a dance song," she said in a statement. "A couple of my sisters have mentioned that it reminds them of the music I used to make when I was ten years old, when I was just messing around and having fun with a 4-track cassette recorder. It made me so happy to hear them say that."
No doubt, then, she'll also be happy that TV networks have already started plucking songs from the new LP to feature on their hit TV shows. 'Greys Anatomy' and 'Charmed' have used her music in the past and album track '5678' has made its way onto an episode of the hit Channel 7 show 'Private Practice'.
Speaking of the new album, it's her first independent release. Butterfly has spoken passionately of not only it, but also of now being the one calling the shots, instead of the record company puppeteers.
If '5678' is any indication of what to expect, we're most excited to head to the shops to bag our copy of the LP when it drops this Friday.

I misread the bit out about setting it free. I thought you said she was giving it away free and got very excited! But alas, I'm still very excited about this!
