STING HITS 60

What do you ordinarily do when you have a birthday? Go shopping with friends? Pop open a bottle of cheap plonk? Go out for a lovely meal?
If you're Sting and you're celebrating your 60th birthday (he hits the magical milestone tomorrow), you go all out with a star-studded concert in New York.
Joining Sting on stage for the annual birthday celebration this year will be a cavalcade of big music industry names - see Mary J Blige, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Will.I.Am, Rufus Wainwright and even Lady Gaga. Actor Robert Downey Jr. will also be on hand to join in the celebrations.
The concert is a fundraiser for the Robin Hood Foundation, which aims to stamp out poverty in New York.
Sting's 60th birthday celebrations have co-incided with the release of his rather superb new '25 Years' deluxe greatest hits package, which appeared in stores locally yesterday.
The release comprises three CDs and a hardcover book, along with a DVD of previously unreleased concert footage.
Stripped-down single and double disc editions will be released on October 21.
