The nominees have been announced for the 2011 ARIA Awards.
The awards, celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, will be held at the end of next month at Sydney's Allphones Arena (formerly Acer Arena) and will recognise excellence in Australian recorded music with a swag of industry-voted categories, along with a number of publicly-voted 'Most Popular' categories.
Leading the field in this year's nominations are Sydney outfit Boy & Bear, hip hop star Drapht and Melbourne singer-songwriter Gotye, each of whom have scored seven nods from the voting panelists.
Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu achieved six nominations, so too West Australian outfit Eskimo Joe, while Bird Of Tokyo follow with five nominations, with four each for Billy Thorpe and Guy Sebastian.
Gotye, Drapht and Boy & Bear have all been confirmed to perform at the November 27 ceremony.
As always, fans will have the chance to vote, with the categories of Most Popular Australian Artist and Most Popular International Artist both up for grabs within the publicly voted realm. I can't believe they ignored Jess Mauboy. She deserved some nominations for Saturday Night, and the album, which were amazing.

Surprised Havana and Zoe got a nomination. With the awards, ARIA have always seemed to be pro-alternative and a little anti-pop.

Congratulations to ARIA...another who's who of who's that. Any wonder no commercial network wants to air this event...they're so caught up in keeping all the Triple Jers happy that theyve ignored all the commercial successes of the year.

Boring!
How can Jess Mauboy not be nominated for Best Female?! Not even Best Pop Release. Poor girl.
And what is it with all of these NZ artists being nominated??

Hey team,

Looking at the nominations, it looks like it's going to be a tale of two winners this year - Boy & Bear and Gotye.
Gotye was fresh in people's minds because it was No.1 at the time of voting.
As one of the 800 or so voting members, we can assure you that we put in a good word for pop.

No wonder the Australian Recording Industry is in as much trouble as it is, when it's own members vote against the more commercially successful pop artists. It's almost as if you get punished for appealing to the masses.

Bring back the Australian Music Awards, which actually awarded the highest selling artists. The public is the most important judge as far as I'm concerned anyway...

Most boring ARIAs ever.

Not a fan of public voted awards. Some fan-bases are experts and run scripts or strike 'deals'. Just saw a tweet saying Declan Sykes fans will vote for Guy in return for votes for Declan in xfactor. Wonder what Guy thinks of that. Maybe they have deals with Johnny and Reece's fan-groups too?
