SOPHIE B HAWKINS : Right Beside You

Now here's a blast from the past. Sophie B Hawkins burst onto the global music scene back in 1992 with her debut single 'Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover'. It reached the top ten here in Australia and set the scene for continued success down under. But two more charting singles later, the singer was virtually gone from our mainstream psyche, destined to live life as another three hit wonder. But what hits they were. 'Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover' was incredible. 'As I Lay Me Down' was similarly sublime. But it's her top 50 poppy uptempo number 'Right Beside You' which we feature here this arvo. With interesting choices of instrumentation right from the opening synths, the track sounds rather fresh still. The Grid (who had a hit down under with 'Swamp Thing' in 1993) provided a remix of the track on the local single.
The clip? Sophie's popped down to her beach house where she's exposed to the elements to give the whole thing an earthy look - albeit awash in blue.
The singer released an independent single called 'The Land, The Sea And The Sky' in the middle of last year. A fundraising single for waterkeeper.org, it's available on our local iTunes store HERE.
