NASH ADDS MELBOURNE NO.2

UK songstress Kate Nash, who's coming to Australia late next month for the acclaimed and star-packed Splendour In The Grass festival in Queensland, has this afternoon announced a second headline show for Melbourne. With her original date at the Corner Hotel (on August 04) now officially sold out, organisers have added a second show to cope with demand. The new show precedes the original date and will be held across town at the East Brunswick Club.
The Metro Theatre gig in Sydney is also now closed to selling out.
Tickets for the East Brunswick Club date in Melbourne are on sale this Friday, July 02.

August 03 : Melbourne (East Brunswick Club) NEW SHOW
August 04 : Melbourne (Corner Hotel) SOLD OUT
August 05 : Sydney (Metro Theatre)

TOURING : Katherine Jenkins

She may not be pop per se (even though her most recent album 'Believe' featured her take on contemporary tracks such as Evanescence's 'Bring Me To Life'), but Welsh songstress Katherine Jenkins has today announced an Australian tour. Dainty Corporation made the announcement a short time ago, revealing that the singer, who's sold more than seven million albums across the globe, will take to the stage in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide in October this year. Special guest for all three dates is 2009 Australia's Got Talent winner Mark Vincent and tickets for the shows are on sale tomorrow morning (July 01) at 9am.

October 23 : Sydney (State Theatre)
October 26 : Adelaide (Entertainment Centre)
October 28 : Melbourne (Regent Theatre)

FEFE DOBSON : Ghost

25 year old Canadian songstress Fifi Dobson has already had a long and checkered history with the recorded music industry. Refusing to be moulded into the hot new pop thing by Jive Records at the age of 15, she left the label. Subsequently signed, dropped and now signed again by Island Records, she's set to release her third album Stateside later this year - and the news single from it? You guessed it - 'Ghost'.
And it's all about the cheating boyfriend - as Fefe catches him cheating with a series of hot temptresses, all of whom are eager to get their claws into him. Cute track. No word yet on a local release.

FREE ROCKSTAR

Early this month, we brought you the story of this hot new dance track by Piper & Fernandez. 'Rockstar' has now spent an amazing nine weeks on the ARIA club chart, so far peaking at No.3. It's still in the top ten this week, so those generous buggers have decided to give us a remix of the track to give to you.
Yes, those lovely chaps have given us the Angger Dimas Club Mix of the track to give away to you FREE of charge - and you can nab it for yourself now by clicking HERE!
Naturally, we'll keep you up to date with further Piper & Fernandez goodness down the track.

SARAH'S NEXT SINGLE

Aussie songstress and one-time Superjesus lead singer Sarah McLeod has revealed the title of her forthcoming single. It's called 'Double R' and it's the follow-up to her 2009 club banger 'Tell Your Story Walking' - a track we described at the time as "a curiously addictive mix of pop and dance".
The new single will see Sarah continue down the dance route, with remixes also on the way.

KYLIE VISIT UPDATE

By now you're completely aware that pop princess Kylie Minogue is about to head home for five days of national promotional duties for her brand new album 'Aphrodite' (which hits the shops this Friday). You're probably also aware that she'll be taking to the stage to perform two tracks (including 'All The Lovers') on Channel 9's 'Hey Hey It's Saturday' on Wednesday July 21.
But we've happened upon some more information that will give local fans a little teaser of where else the Impossible Princess is set to pop up whilst she's on our shores.
On Channel 9, she's due to have a live interview and performance for the Today Show, as well as an appearance on A Current Affair to spruik her spot on Hey Hey. There'll also be a pre-recorded interview for Kerri Anne.
On the 7 Network, there'll be a face-to-face interview with Molly Meldrum for Sunrise which is set for broadcast on Friday July 23. This may also be used for 7's 'Sunday Night'.
On Network 10, she'll be popping into the 7PM Project for a pre-recorded interview, along with a chat with entertainment reporter Angela Bishop.
Commencing next Monday, an interview with Kylie will be featured across Music Max and Channel [V] on Foxtel. A Max Masters special will be recorded next month, with an August airdate slated.
Add to that radio and print interviews and it seems to be a pretty comprehensive schedule.
The last day of her promo schedule, however, is apparently on a Sunday - after which she's rumoured to be spending time with her family in Melbourne. Could Kylie, therefore, possibly pop up on a certain Melbourne-based dancing show? Food for thought.

DERULO'S ADELAIDE CHANGE

It seems like there's no slowing down demand for tickets to Jason Derulo's forthcoming tour of Australia. A new show in Brisbane was announced just last Thursday (with tickets on sale this Thursday), but now comes news that the singer's Adelaide show is on the move to cope with demand in the South Australian capital.
The original show was set down for the Thebarton Theatre, but due to the popularity of the gig, it's now been moved to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. The time and date remain the same.
Punters who've already purchased tickets to the Thebarton Theatre will need to have their tickets exchanged for the new venue, with seating allocation decided by how early people booked tickets originally. (For more details on this, hit the MICHAEL COPPEL WEBSITE).
With a bigger venue comes extra general and reserved seating tickets - and they're due to go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday June 30, from midday.

November 02 : Perth (Challenge Stadium)
November 04 : Adelaide (Entertainment Centre) CHANGE OF VENUE
November 05 : Melbourne (Festival Hall)
November 06 : Melbourne (Festival Hall) SOLD OUT
November 09 : Sydney (Hordern Pavillion)
November 11 : Brisbane (Convention Centre) NEW SHOW
November 13 : Brisbane (Convention Centre) SOLD OUT

KIMBRA : Settle Down

There's something warm and instantly likeable about the debut single from Aussie songstress Kimbra. It bubbles along gently, guided by a collection of hand claps and 'boom ba boom bah's and Kimbra's sweet, sweet vocals, while the clip is set to a backdrop of dolls and a young lady who's making big plans for the future with the man who seems just too perfect to be true.
Sadly, the long-held dolly dreams of those 'happily ever afters' go up in smoke. Nice debut.

TAYLOR MADE

She's been working with Australia's own Tania Doko in the writing studios of late, but now dance diva Taylor Dayne is turning her attention to Cologne in Germany, where's she's about to release 'Facing A Miracle' - the official anthem for the 2010 Gay Games.
It jumps from a symphony of strings into a mid-tempo dance beat, all accompanied by those famous vocals - which don't seem to have changed one little bit.
The single is due for release on Thursday - and word is it's an international digital release, meaning we ought to be seeing it on the local iTunes store. Listen HERE.

INCOMING : Jedward

Not sure whether this will get a local release or not, but the debut album by British X Factor duo Jedward is being prepared for release in the UK next month. 'Planet Jedward' will be the boys' first release for their new record label Universal Music, after being dropped by Sony Music earlier this year following disappointing sales of their debut single 'Under Pressure'.
They'll precede the release of their new album by plopping out another cover version - this time of Blink 182's 'All The Small Things'.

MINI NEWS WRAP

• Lots of new music at Australian radio this week, including the brand new single for UK songstress Estelle (pictured). It's the first single to be lifted from the singer's new album 'All Of Me', which we anticipate Warner will release later this year.
• As we broke last week, Sony Music has taken Christina Aguilera's new single 'I Hate Boys' to local radio along with Michael Paynter's great new track 'Love The Fall'.
• Universal Music has serviced the new Chromeo single 'Don't Turn The Lights On' as well as the new Maroon 5 single 'Misery' and Bon Jovi's 'When We Were Beautiful'.
• Melbourne outfit The Vasco Era has announced a small tour of regional Victoria, taking in Mildura, Ballarat, Geelong and Warrnambool. They'll also head over the border to South Australia to perform a show in Loxton. Details live on their MYSPACE.
• Barack Obama may have won the race to the White House, but he's locked in a battle with Lady Gaga to reach a million followers on social networking site Facebook. Both have over 9.2 million followers already, but Gaga is currently leading the US President by more than 100,000 fans.
• On the UK singles chart this week, Katy Perry has nabbed the No.1 position with her new track 'California Gurls', adding to her No.1 singles in Australia and the United States. Eminem is in the top ten with Rihanna at No.7 and the Scissor Sisters just miss out on a top ten berth with 'Fire With Fire' - in at No.11.
• And on the British album chart, Eminem follows up the No.1 Aussie album with a No.1 UK album. Example's in at No.4 and Miley Cyrus debuts at No.8 with her new album 'Can't Be Tamed'.

SCISSORS TV

We love a band that has a sense of humour - and for those in any doubt that the Scissor Sisters have lost any of theirs over the past few years, they've released this little 'news' video to celebrate the release of their new album 'Night Work' (which we're giving away copies of this week...).
And it's a treat - from bad karaoke to a fleeting shot of what's more than likely '80s porn to guest appearances by Kelly Osbourne and Amanda Lepore and some hilarious technical difficulties, it's all wrapped up in dodgy retro stylings and primal synths.
Get your chops around it.

MORE SIA FOR FREE

Given Sia's best ever chart result here in Australia - with her brand new album 'We Are Born' debuting at No.2 on the ARIA albums chart last night - we thought the time perfect to direct you to her record company Inertia's blog, where they're giving away a free music download every day. They've previously given away the Diplo remix of Sia's latest single and now, they're giving away another 'Clap Your Hands' remix - this time the Prince Vince mix.
Click HERE to nab it for yourself.

CHART WATCH

Eminem and Sia dominate the debuts over on the album chart this week, though they're poles apart in sales numbers. While on the singles chart, Katy Perry still reigns supreme - and that's precisely where we kick off this week's Chart Watch.

SINGLES : Katy Perry has strengthened her hold on the No.1 position this week with her hit single 'California Gurls' - it's raked in a further 17,999 copies this week, more than 4000 copies ahead of B.o.B's 'Airplanes' (13,906 sales) in second place.
Sales of Usher's single 'OMG' keep ticking over - and it was a mere 17 sales out of second place. Eminem's picking up again with 'Not Afraid' - up to No.4 this week, with Yolanda Be Cool down to No.5.
Enrique Iglesias is into the top ten with his single 'I Like It'. The new track, featuring the guest-vocalist-of-the-moment Pitbull, sold 9576 copies to hit No.8.
Outside the top ten, Brian McFadden's 'Chemical Rush' moves up six places to No.12 (6115 sales), Train's 'Hey, Soul Sister' gets a second wind on the back of the band's appearance on Hey Hey It's Saturday and Eminem scores the highest debut of the week (No.14) with a little help from Rihanna. 'Love The Way You Lie' sold 5890 copies on debut.
Uncle Kracker is also on the rise with his single 'Smile'. It's up an impressive 13 places to No.15 this week (5512 sales).
Kylie's 'All The Lovers' suffers a worrying second week slide to No.22, Paramore rises seven places to No.24 with 'The Only Exception' and Cody Simpson's 'iYiYi' jumps by the same number to No.27.
Amy Meredith's 'Lying' drops remarkably by 16 places to No.28.
Adam Lambert's new single 'If I Had You' is in the top 50 mix for the first time. After its top 100 debut last week, it hits the top 50 this week at No.37 (2555 sales).
Tamara Jaber's new musical venture Scarlett Belle has a top 40 debut at No.38 (2431 sales) with their new single 'Closure', Gyroscope is up to No.40 with 'Baby, I'm Gettin' Better', Thirsty Merc pops into the top 50 at No.43 with 'Mousetrap Heart' (2062 sales), as does Lady Antebellum with 'Need You Now' (No.50 with 1587 sales).
Outside the 50, the cast of Glee have picked up 'Good Vibrations' with a No.54 debut (1487 sales), Alexandra Burke reaches a new peak of No.59 with her single 'All Night Long' (1391 sales).
Sia's 'Clap Your Hands' re-emerges in the top 100 at No.71, Ne-Yo's new single 'Beautiful Monsters' is up 26 places to No.72, Train's classic 2001 hit 'Drops Of Jupiter' is back in the mix at No.73, Bliss 'N' Eso have more people spending time 'Down By The River', rising eight spots to No.81, Eminem and Pink are in at No.87 with 'Won't Back Down' (926 copies), Pendulum are in at No.88 with 'Watercolour' (907 sales) and Miley Cyrus pops back in at No.100 with 'Party In The U.S.A.' (742 sales).

ALBUMS : Eminem is miles ahead of the pack this week, bagging the biggest first week album sales since the Christmas/New Year period with his new LP 'Recovery'. Despite mixed reviews, 22,367 copies of the LP flew out of stores last week.
While on paper a No.2 album debut is pretty decent, home grown pop star Sia was a long way back in second position. Her new album 'We Are Born' sold 5827 copies in its first week of sales. But it gives Sia her best ever chart result in Australia.
Jack Johnson drops to No.3 (3805 sales), the Twilight Saga drops to No.4 (3686) and Glee 3 drops to No.5 (3674).
New at No.6 was The Amity Affliction with their new album 'Youngbloods' (3415 sales), with the new Glee EP 'Journey To Regionals' in at No.7 with 3251 sales.
Last week's No.1 (Crowded House's new album 'Intriguer') drops eight positions to No.9 (2454 sales), while Cat Stevens' best of surges to No.10 and Ozzy Osbourne's new album 'Scream' debuts at No.11 (2328 sales).
Thirsty Merc are in at No.14 with 'Mousetrap Heart' (2231 sales), Christina Aguilera's album 'Bionic' slumps to No.16, Jason Derulo's self-titled LP drops 14 places to No.25, The Chemical Brothers are down from No.9 to No.29 and Sarah McLachlan is down 19 places to No.31.
Train's 'Save Me, San Fransisco' is back into the top 50 at No.32 on the back of their promo tour, while Kele's 'The Boxer' pops in with a No.35 debut (1314 sales).
Outside the top 50, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' newbie 'Mojo' debuts at No.52 (1038 copies), Robyn's 'Body Talk Pt.1' debuts at No.64 (833 copies) and The Gaslight Anthem is in at No.72 (772 sales) with 'American Slang'
Drake pops in at No.81 with 'Thank Me Later' (732 sales).

JENNA ANDREWS : Tumblin' Down

Here's a new artist out of Canada who's recently signed to the prestigious Island Def Jam label over in the US. And she's got one of those desperately quirky voices that's going to completely polarise the audience - you're either going to fall in love with it or be tempted to throw the stereo across the room.
The subject matter of the single (and the clip) seems to be the singer falling into an emotional hole (i.e. 'Tumblin' Down'), but we're big believers in fate - for example, if a waitress in a coffee shop drops a tray of dishes and you simply walk over the top of her without offering any assistance whatsoever, you're gonna get that back in spades.
We doubt the song will have any chance on Australian radio.

ROBYN'S NEXT MOVE

Swedish pop sensation Robyn has just released her brand new album 'Body Talk Pt.1' here in Australia and it would seem that there's no slowing down for the project, with the singer revealing something very special for the album's first track 'Don't F*@king Tell Me What To Do'.
The singer has revealed that she's creating an interactive 3D video for the song and wants to get her fans the world over involved in the project.
Essentially, Robyn wants you to use Twitter for let her know what's killing you (in a metaphorical sense, of course) with the aid of a hashtag in your tweet.
Perhaps you could tweet "These shoes are #killingme" or perhaps something along the lines of "This unidentified rash that I picked up after a heavy petting session in a darkened nightclub toilet is #killingme" etc etc.
And it keeps going, with every view of the video regenerating to add the latest tweets. It's all very clever.
Find out what's killing other people by checking it out HERE.

BRANDON'S FLAMINGO TO DROP

It was one of the most added songs to Australian radio last week (you'll find out more about that later this morning), and Universal Music has followed up the servicing of the new Brandon Flowers single 'Crossfire' (pictured) with news of his album's release in Australia.
'Flamingo' has been produced by Stuart Price, Daniel Lanois and Brendan O'Brien and is reportedly "full of sparkling, stadium-ready songs" that will keep Killers fans appeased while Brandon's band is on hiatus.
'Flamingo' is due for release in Australia on Friday September 03.

LOOKBACK

ELTON JOHN & RU PAUL : Don't Go Breaking My Heart

Taken from Elton's 1993 'Duets' album was this monstrously kitsch remake of Elton's 1976 Kiki Dee duet 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart'. Given that Kiki was already appearing on one song on the 'Duets' LP (a cover of Cole Porter's 'True Love'), Elton decided to rope in the world's most fashionable drag queen Ru Paul for a no holds barred high-camp disco version with some of the corniest acting you're every likely to see - from both of them. Elton looks a little like a Pet Shop Boy as he delivers a box of chocolates to the statuesque supermodel before both launch into the highly retro, hi-NRG version of the song. It just scraped into the Aus top 50.

ROGUES GO 3D

The gang from the Rogue Traders revealed the 2D version of their 'Hearts Beat As One' video clip last Friday and just one week on, they've revealed the 3D version. In announcing the 'Hearts Beat As One' video back in May, Sony Music revealed that the band was the first Australian artist to film a music clip in 3D.
And with 3D technology becoming more and more popular by the day, it's a nice little feather in the Rogues' cap.

INCOMING : Lauren Pritchard

We can't quite put our finger on what it is that makes 22 year old Tennessee singer Lauren Pritchard so utterly beguiling, but we think it has something to do with that incredible voice, which is so smooth, so soulful and so genuine that you can't help but fall for its charm.
After signing to a label in the US that wanted her to venture into a bubblegum pop arena that was everything she was not, the singer ended things and packed up her bags, moving to the UK where she's since signed with Island Records.
Staying true to her style, she's about to release her single 'Painkillers' in the UK and will follow it up with her brand new album 'Wasted In Jackson' (indeed she was) in September.
While there's no word on a local release for Lauren's tunes just yet, we'll keep an eye out, because we reckon on the strength of this single alone, the album is going to be something altogether special.
(You can download a free remix of the single 'Painkillers' by signing up to the Lauren mailing list HERE).

Their album's out now, and tickets for the tour are on sale on Friday July 02.

The thing that we really adore about the videos to the Gorillaz' singles from this latest album of theirs is the incredible, incredible animation. There's something about the colours, the attention to detail and the vivid imaginations that have created them that makes each and every one of them so damned believable.
We also love that while most of the clip looks rather 3D in it's design, the main characters remain very much 1D short.
In this clip, a passenger liner is under heavy attack from some planes. Sadly it sinks and the passengers are left to scramble for the lifeboats.
There are some great underwater shots, where the various craft find themselves churning through a school of superfast jellyfish. Unfortunately, the jellyfish aren't superfast enough to out-swim the propellors.
All rather amazing really.
The digital EP is set for release on July 23 with the following tracklist;

01. On Melancholy Hill - Radio Edit
02. On Melancholy Hill - Video
03. Snoop / Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach -Video
04. On Melancholy Hill - Japanese Popstars Remix
05. On Melancholy Hill - She is Danger Remix
06. Stylo – Labrinth featuring Tinie Tempah Remix

KATY HITS PLATINUM

The song first hit the ARIA charts only four short weeks ago, but EMI has announced that Katy Perry's new single 'California Gurls' has now officially been classified platinum in Australia for sales of more than 70,000 copies.
'California Gurls' this week hit the No.1 position on the ARIA singles chart and its spot looks virtually guaranteed in the weeks ahead, with remixes and the video making their way to the digital music stores.
The single becomes Katy's fourth platinum single success in Australia, following on from 'I Kissed A Girl', 'Hot 'N' Cold' and 'Waking Up In Vegas'.
Her new album 'Teenage Dream' is released locally on Friday August 27.

ROCK'S NEXT CLUB THUMPER

The boys from TV Rock (left) must be a little pleased with themselves - their last single 'In The Air' not only dominated the ARIA club charts for yonks, but also found success in clubs across the globe, catapulting them to altogether loftier heights of fame.
So with one massive club banger under their belts, they've only gone and created another one, 'Elevated'.
With a selection of tasty remixes, the single has been serviced to DJs across the country this week, and features vocals by London based singer Tara McDonald, who's already performed on dance tracks for Axwell, David Guetta and Armand Van Helden to name a few.
No word yet on a digital release date, but check out their OFFICIAL MYSPACE to cop a listen.

CROWDIES' NEXT MOVE

Crowded House's brand new LP 'Intriguer' may have got the No.1 album spot on this week's ARIA chart, but it only sold just over 6000 units to get there. So Universal Music Australia has announced that they'll be rolling out the second single from the album to radio on Monday next week.
'Either Side of the World' is the new single, a track frontman Neil Finn describes as "a slight homage to JPY (John Paul Young).. a bit Love Is In The Air”.
No word yet on a digital release for the single.

INTERVIEW : Amy Meredith

Amy Meredith. Does she exist? Is she the babysitter Christian had when he was younger? Was it a high school crush? Or was it the name of the "smoking hot" girl who worked at the local corner store? There are a number of theories flying around about the origins of the name of one Australia's hottest up and coming bands.
On the eve of release of their debut album, we caught up with Christian, Cam and Joel for a natter - and they gave us the tried and tested 'corner store' story.

"She used to work at a corner shop. Me, Joel and Wade, we all live around two minutes away from each other and it was just up the road on our bus route on the way home from school. It was a really nice shop and she worked there and she was really really hot. She took a shining to me, Joel and Wade and she’d always serve us before anyone else – a little lolly here or whatever. She was so hot and everyone knew it," says Cam.

"Everyone knew she was smoking hot, but we kinda joked about it one day about just calling our band 'Amy Meredith'. We finished up school, she left the shop and we never really went there anymore," he says.

But it's when we suggest perhaps trying to track her down that the story starts to unravel.

"I don’t know – I think we’re better off not finding her because we could run into some sort of battle that we don’t want to run into," says Christian, "We named it after her and she might want some sort of compensation – who knows! Maybe I could just end up marrying her – that could be an incredible story."

"It was a bit of a joke that stuck, but it’s a battle that we’re trying to move forward from.. You know, we’re a band," reveals Joel.

The ride to the top ten has been a slow and steady one for the band from Sydney's southern suburbs. After a battle between major record labels to sign them in the early days, Sony Music inked the deal that would see them release their debut single 'Pornstar' earlier this year.

"We had a lot of label interest at the very beginning of our career," says Christian, "It was almost too much too quickly and the first show played out of Sydney was in Los Angeles to a major label over there and we kind of came back to Sydney, went to Japan, did all these shows. We signed a deal and that fell through. We weren’t going to sign to a major and we didn’t. We came back and we realised that we needed to write some great songs.

"When we first started it was kind of like a snowball effect. We had one label at our show and then it was every single label, major, indie. Every manager turned out to this one show in Sydney, all in the same room eyeing each other off going ‘are these guys taking the piss?’. In hindsight, we shouldn’t have put them all in a room together – we should have done private showcases. But at the time we didn’t know better," he says.

"The show we played was packed. We had a line out in the street 200m long, so it was pretty exciting," adds Joel.

Connecting with their ever-growing legion of fans via Myspace, Facebook and Twitter has proven to be of great benefit to the five piece, who are now being recognised and celebrated all over the country.

"We’d never been to Perth before – even up until the start of this year, so it was cool to go over there for the first time and sell heaps of merch and have heaps of people come down to see us just because of online stuff. And even now we have people asking when we’re coming back. We can just stay in touch – it’s definitely got the pros and cons, the technology," says Joel.

"I guess it’s just so easy to find new bands in this day and age on Myspace. But if you interact with this band and you like that they grasp your personality, you’re going to come back because you’re invested," adds Christian.

The band's latest single 'Lying' recently hit the top ten on the ARIA singles chart. It was written about Christian's failed relationship with a young woman who quite possibly is unaware that there's a song written about her.

"I don’t speak to her anymore. It did end quite badly," says Christian, "The truth is that the whole song is about that anxiety about not actually knowing but being so convinced in your heart and mind. And I guess that the whole relationship was that constant anxiety of not friggin’ knowing if she is. And she never ever has admitted to it, but I’m 100% sure she was up to something."

"I think it’s good because everyone can relate to something like that. There’s always going to be a part of your life where you come across someone you’ve know where you don’t know if someone’s cheating or lying, so that’s why it’s worked so well," says Cam.

"Don’t go near Christian or he’ll write a song about you," warns Joel.

"She’s definitely inspired at least two songs on the album. It’s really funny, because I don’t every think about her but when I think of that emotion, she’s the first idiot that comes into my head, so to speak," adds Christian.

The video clip for the single looks like a heck of a lot of fun. Cam gets showered in thumb tacks, Joel's stripped naked and Christian...? Well he just gets to be tickled with a feather by gorgeous girls.

"I think Cam got the short straw, definitely," says Joel, who has his penis pixellated in the video, "Pixelated penis. PP!" he jokes.

"At least it’s better than what’s usually down there!," pipes Cam.

"It feels good, it feels right," says Christian.

"What, my manhood feels good?" enquires Joel.

"I love your manhood," retorts Christian, "The whole thing about the clip feels right, the vibe on the song with the connection to the lyric. I was loving my role, I was like ‘far out, I’ve got to get tickled and held down by awesome babes’. Oh it was so good."

"It’s set up to be kinda like a Japanese game show," says Cam, "Although we don’t know what the writing at the start says. Well we’ve been asked. Maybe we do."

"Bit of trivia. If you can find that out, please tell us," adds Christian.

Amy Meredith's forthcoming debut album 'Restless' was produced by pop aficionado Rob Conley, who's previously worked with Darren Hayes and more recently with Brian McFadden. He brings to the LP an electronic pop sensibility that seamlessly blends with Amy Meredith's rockier persona and Christian's nu-romantic vocals.

"We got along really really well with Rob," says Christian.

"We actually ended up becoming really good friends and we then spent a year writing with him and we were supposed to just go in for just one day. We got him on board for the album when we had the opportunity to get a producer, not just before when we were doing pre-production. He’s been around since the beginning," says Joel.

"I think when you say about the electronic thing, I think a lot of us are into electronic music," says Christian, "We love any sort of synth in a song and I think one thing that I loved about Robert was that he was into Depeche Mode. One of the first things he said to me was ‘I have the whole catalogue – they’re one of my favourite bands’, so you know that the way that he does the synths is going to be a bit Depeche Mode, but also it’s very pop sensible as well. He has a bit of an acute sense of where he wants to go and it kind of pushes everything into a different direction, which is perfect for us."

There's a number of top-notch pop songs on the album, more of which are expected to dominate the singles chart in the months ahead. But the boys agree that there's one song on the album that they'll always hold as their favourite.

"I was gong to say the first song, and it’s what we always end up saying, but the first track on the album, which is the track that sets everything up, is actually the first song that we ever wrote as a band pretty much. And I remember writing it," says Joel, "It’s just stuck with us the whole time and even on this tour, we played it last, sometimes as an encore. That’s my favourite song, personally."

"I don’t know whether it’s the notion of... 'it’s the first song, I love this song'. Or it’s legitimately got every single element in that song that I believe this band is about. It’s got an honest vocal, a really heart-felt emotion, the really heavy synth hooklines, a really catchy melody," adds Christian.

Cam also pipes up, "The way it sounds now, it didn’t sound like that four years ago – nothing like it. But there was always something about that song where we thought we couldn’t scrap it."

The band is also looking to hit the road later in the year for a series of live performances - and Christian hints that they may be coming to a shopping centre or a school near you.

"I think headlining tour will be around late September. We’re definitely going to be doing two more supports in between that and then one little tour on the back of a truck potentially, but you heard that here first. That’s not confirmed. But there’s an idea floating about that we’d sit out the front of Westfields or schools and just play," he says.

Whether Amy Meredith (female object of youthful lust and desire) exists or not, there's a band out there bearing her name.
And armed with a great sense of humour, an endearing down to earth attitude and a swag of killer pop songs, that band is fast becoming as hot and infinitely more popular than any girl in a corner store.

Amy Meredith's debut album 'Restless' is in-stores on Friday July 02.
Their top ten single 'Lying' is out now.
The band kicks off a tour of New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia on August 04.
Full tour dates available on the Amy Meredith OFFICIAL MYSPACE.

KYLIE HITS HEY HEY

It's been a heck of a long time since she last appeared on the show, but Channel 9 and Warner Music have announced that Kylie Minogue will return to the set of Hey Hey It's Saturday on Wednesday July 21 to perform her new single 'All The Lovers' and another track.
According to the official press release, it will mark the singer's first performance on Australian television for ten years.
Says Kylie, "Hey Hey - you're back! I'm suddenly eight years old, lying on the floor, watching Hey Hey it's Saturday. I've always, always, always loved you and I'm going to be with you on July 21st. I'm going to come play with you and perform my new single so look out - and Dickie, I don't want any grief from you. Doubt that's going to happen, but I'll see you guys soon.”
Kylie is set to be joined on the show by a troupe of 25 dancers, along with a 'no expenses spared' set including state of the art lighting and costumes.

KATY PERRY : California Gurls

We're taking a risk in posting this little clip up, given Katy Perry's record company has been ruthless with not allowing embed codes for 'California Gurls' - hence us not showing you the clip here on auspOp - until now.
And it's a shame too - 'cause this is without doubt one of the most colourful, bright, shiny, fluffy, sweet, tasty, delicious video clips you're likely to see all year.
Yes, it features Katy covering her behind with fairy floss, but there's so much more - gingerbread men, gummy bears with a penchant for raising the middle finger, ice creams, bon bons, lollipops, marshmallows and even a Twizzler bridge!
A delicious load of fun - we're loving it.

PARLOTONES' DESIGNS ON AUS

The gang from Aussie record company Inertia whacked this little album (pictured) out at the end of last month, but South African outfit The Parlotones have recently enjoyed a worldwide audience with their star turn at the opening concert for the FIFA World Cup held just last week.
The song's very reminiscent of the mid-late '80s new romantic era, with some soft vocals and a little eye make-up - and that's just the lead singer!
It's oh so then, but it's all so very now. 'Life Design' is available at Aussie digital retail now.

ERIKA HEYNATZ : Bullet

Little Erika Heynatz is playing the temptress in the video clip for her new single 'Bullet' and she pulls it off mightily well - in fact as the 'Black Widow', she's barely recognisable from the blonde bombshell we know and love.
Set in a '50s cinema, she's found some rather sexy ways to get the ticket seller's attention, kicking off with a snake and a skimpy outfit, a margarita, fake lashes and plenty of bling.
Later in the clip, she even dons a red wig to sit atop what looks like an oversized Blistex lip balm.
It's a great looking video.

MAROON'S MISERY

Universal Music has added to the list of tracks taken to local radio this week with 'Misery' - the new single from Californian outfit Maroon 5. It's the first single to be lifted from Adam and the boys' new album 'Hands All Over', which is due at retail later this year.
They'll no doubt be hoping to replicate the success of the single 'Makes Me Wonder', which came blisteringly close to the Australian No.1 spot three years ago.
'Hands All Over' is due for release locally on September 17.

CHRISTINA'S NEXT MOVE

Despite Christina Aguilera's own announcement on her OFFICIAL WEBSITE that the new single from her latest album will be 'You Lost Me' comes news from Sony Music locally that 'I Hate Boys' will be the second official Australian single release from Christina's latest album 'Bionic'.
The track will be officially serviced to Australian radio on Monday next week.
