READY FOR BATTLE(FIELD)

Sony Music Australia may have delayed the release to retail of 'Battlefield', the new single from former American Idol contestant Jordin Sparks. But they've also revealed that Jordin's album of the same name will be released to retail in Australia on the same date - Friday July 17. The cover art for the album (pictured) was recently revealed in the United States.

MISS BASS BEHIND THE SCENES

The delightful Natalie Bassing-thwaighte (left) has just revealed a behind the scenes look at the video for her forthcoming single 'Not For You'. It seems that Nat's spending quite a bit of time sittin' at the dock of the bay for the new clip - with a couple of hot cars involved. Nat's gone rather natural with a white singlet top and jeans, with her newly darkened locks. There's also a beautiful black Jaguar with one of the most appropriate number plates we've seen in yonks!

INTERVIEW : Nikki Webster

She was just 13 years old when she went flying across Sydney's ANZ Stadium during the opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympic Games. One year on, she was challenging for the No.1 position on the ARIA chart with her single 'Strawberry Kisses'. Three years, three albums and six singles later, Nikki Webster was dropped by Gotham Records in BMG's merger with Sony Music and she disappeared from the Australian music scene.
But after a five year break from the industry, the now 22 year old is back with a new single, 'Devilicious' and she's been surprised to discover that despite her absence, 'Nikki Webster' is still considered radio poison.
"Everybody knows about the stigma that’s attached to the name of Nikki Webster, but no-one can actually explain why. That’s what I find funny. They all say ‘what’s it like being the punchline of everyone’s jokes and going through the whole tall poppy syndrome?’ and I’m like ‘that’s okay, but why do you do it?’ and they’re like ‘Er, I don’t know’."
She's at a loss to explain why, after five years, the stigma still exists.
"‘Cause they’re just following suit, I don’t know. I have no idea – see, no-one knows! It’s ‘cause they can and I just put it down to jealousy – that’s someone’s succeeding and pushing themselves to follow their dreams," she said.
But although music directors actively turn their noses up at the thought of playing a Nikki Webster track on radio, the singer has experienced great support from the on-air talent.
"Everyone on air as in Kyle and Jackie O, Merrick and Rosso – everybody like that is really behind me and it’s just incredible to have their support. But getting it played is a different thing and everybody’s hands are tied in one way or another.
"I go back to when I released ‘Strawberry Kisses’ – you know it was No.2 for eight weeks on the ARIA charts and you’d listen to the countdown and they’d just somehow miss it – it’d be like ‘And number two is Nikki Webster, now going onto No.1’. Somehow it was missed so they didn’t have to play it. So I didn’t expect radio play, but then I didn’t expect support from on-air people and to have that is exceptional. That’s all I care about – all I want to do is impress those guys.
"I guess another hard thing with the comeback is that it’s been four or five years – the music industry’s completely different and I’m also an independent now, I’m not with a major label, so there’s a lot of walls you have to jump over. But the main thing is that the people that I need to get the music out to are hearing it and loving it. The feedback I’m getting is great – and that’s all I can ask for a first single in five years."
However - it's not everyone that's unhappy to see the return of Nikki Webster - she's been discovering that the support has most certainly been forthcoming from the gay community.
"That’s been ongoing. That’s something that I guess has hit me since I was 13 and it’s been ongoing. They’re the ones that are always there and they’ll wait. They’ll wait as long as they have to. The feedback I’ve been getting is great and I can’t wait to hit the clubs and actually perform it. You know, ‘cause other than doing it on TV, I haven’t performed it in front of an audience and I’m really missing that," she said.
Nikki's back catalogue, including singles 'Strawberry Kisses', 'Dancing In The Street' and 'Something More Beautiful', polarised many within the music industry, who deemed it too youth-focussed to ever succeed commercially, but the singer says she looks back fondly on her earlier efforts.
"I still love performing those songs – you know they’re great. For the age I was - I was a teenager and I think they were perfect. Ross Fraser and I did a great job with all the albums and I don’t regret any one of those songs on there. I teach them to my kids at the dance school and they love them, so that’s just the second or third generation that I’m going ‘these albums were great – these albums were so ahead of their time'. It was like Miley Cyrus or High School Musical four or five years ago, so I just think ‘fuck, I was ahead of the time, I wish I was sixteen now’."
'Devilicious' is the singer's first single in almost five years - a Mike Rizzo produced dance-pOp offering that drags Nikki's signature sound into the now. It debuted in the ARIA top 100 last week with almost 500 physical singles sales in New South Wales alone.
"It’s good to be back and it’s good to have music – I think that’s the main thing. I’ve been around during the past four years doing bits and pieces but to actually have music out and to be able to talk about it is fantastic and it certainly makes me complete and happy," she says. BUT...
"It’s also horrible. All I want to do is release music and then it gets to the point where it’s all about debuting and releasing and all that stress and I’m like ‘why do I put myself through it?’, because it’s tough, you know – you have such a short amount of time to prove yourself and I guess the songs have such short life expectancy in the shops and on the radio. You can put your heart and soul into a song and it can be old news within a week."
The new single is accompanied by a video resplendent with a myriad of young, flesh-flashing dancers that looks like it had a small fortune spent on it.
"Yeah, I’m kinda broke!," she laughs, "I guess I wanted to showcase as much Australian talent as I could because I do want to take this track overseas. So I wanted to include as many incredible dancers as I could and also I think there’s a certain standard that’s expected from me in terms of professionalism. I had a lot of pressure to live up to but I also wanted to have some fun and do it my way."

Nikki's future plans will also see her taking the entire 'Devilicious' project, including the forthcoming album, overseas.
"Definitely I want to try and hit the Europe market with some of the other tracks as well and see where that goes and I guess having Peter Rafelson and Mike Rizzo on board with 'Devilicious', they’ve got quite a bit of pull in the American clubs, so they’re right behind it and they’ll push it as much as they need to, so we’ll see. He’s (Rizzo) always number one on the Billboard charts."
It's then we begin our push to find our more information about the next single and the album. Here's where Nikki gets a bit defensive! Here's exactly how the conversation went;
auspOp : Talk about the new album – you’ve obviously got that in the pipeline…?
Nikki : Yes.
auspOp : Have you got a working title for it yet?
Nikki : No I don’t. No I’m the kind of chick that just wants to get 'Devilicious' out, then I’ll focus on the second single and then I’ll contemplate the album. You know I’m just step by step. I guess being an independent I can do that. I don’t have the label breathing down my neck.
auspOp : So obviously the plans for the second single are already in the bag?
Nikki : Yes! Absolutely!
auspOp : And when will that drop?
Nikki : Oh dear, pressure!? Soon! I’m not sure. I guess we’ll see how Devilicious goes and definitely I want to give it it’s due course and head it up with the second single which is another track I absolutely love.
auspOp : Have we got a name for that yet?
Nikki : Oh yeah, but I’m not gonna give it away! I’ll get into trouble! Nup! Nup! I’ll tell you later!
auspOp : So when will we see a release for the album? August? September?
Nikki : Look at you! Fishing! Soon! It’ll be soon. Definitely in 2009. The fans are like ‘where’s the next single? Where’s the album?’ I’m like ‘can’t you just like the one song for a little bit?’
So while we wait patiently for the as-yet-untitled single No.2 and the as-yet-untitled and as-yet-scheduled new album, we make do with 'Devilicious', a solid new dance/pOp offering from a young Australian performer that mainstream radio, sadly, continues to ignore.

Nikki's single 'Devilicious' is available digitally and on two track physical single now.
Her new (as yet untitled) album is due before the end of the year.
Visit here next Monday for your chance to win copies of 'Devilicious'.

MJ's iTUNES DOMINATION

It's just three days after the shock death of the King Of Pop and it seems fans the world over can't get enough of his music. He's infiltrating the top 100 over on the UK singles charts this week, will no doubt dominate the official Billboard charts this Thursday and already on iTunes in Australia, it's seems that Michael Jackson fever is well and truly alive. Here on a Monday morning, no less than 37 songs in the Australian iTunes top 100 are either by the singer solo or part of collaborations (either with the Jacksons, Jackson 5 or 'We Are The World'). He occupies a quarter of the iTunes Australia top 20 as we type (Nos.9, 10, 13, 16 and 19) with his biggest song being 'Man In The Mirror' at No.9. No doubt sales of his CDs and digital tracks will impact greatly on next weekend's official ARIA charts, with rumours of up to 100,000 copies of his CDs selling out of stores across Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Sony Music is frantically pressing extra copies of all of his back catalogue to keep up with demand and it's anticipate that stock will begin to trickle through into stores within the next week. We'll bring you all the sales next Monday morning.

LIOR'S SYDNEY FUNDRAISER

For the hundreds of people who missed out on seeing Lior during his recent 'Shadows And Light' tour of the country, heads-up; He's collaborating with the Sydney Theatre Company in September for two very special shows to raise money for charity organisation 'Youngcare'. Youngcare was set up to find age-appropriate care for young people who require 24 hour assistance after being involved in serious, debilitating accidents. Currently, they're housed in aged care. Says Lior about the fundraisers, "The Shadows And Light tour was one of the most fulfilling and inspiring experiences in my career thus far, both artistically and also in the way it seemed to resonate with the audience. At the time of wrapping up the shows, I was invited to the Sydney Theatre Company and I remember looking at the performance space thinking... Wow, it's like this room was built for the Shadows And Light concept.
"Around about the same time, I was contacted by a charity group called Youngcare and became very interested in the work they are doing for young people who are suffering and require round the clock care in suitable and dignified conditions. I am always inspired by young people who are committed to helping other young people in need. They approached me about doing a show to raise funds and awareness. It seemed that all the stars had somehow aligned and that the natural thing to do was to pull out the Shadows And Light show one more time later this year in a beautiful setting and for a worthy cause."
The shows are set to take place at the Sydney Theatre Company on September 09 and September 10, with all proceeds going to Youngcare. For tickets to the gigs, hit the SYDNEY THEATRE COMPANY website and for more information on Youngcare, hit THEIR WEBSITE.

CHART WATCH

Well the Black Eyed Peas once again dominate the ARIA singles chart this week - but just which single has made it to the top - the incumbent 'Boom Boom Pow' or the challenger 'I Gotta Feeling'?
SINGLES : It was indeed the new single 'I Gotta Feeling' which hit the top spot this week for the very first time, ousting the band's previous single 'Boom Boom Pow' from the No.1 position. And 'I Gotta Feeling' sold over 2000 copies more than it's predecessor in the week to claim pole. 13,235 copies of 'I Gotta Feeling' to 10,857 of 'Boom Boom Pow'. But Lady Gaga wasn't too far away from spoiling another Black Eyed Peas one-two party. Her single 'Paparazzi' bagged an impressive 10,684 copies within the week to hold steady at No.3. From No.5 to No.8, there were four entries all bulleting their way into the top ten; Taylor Swift 'You Belong With Me' (No.13 to No.5 - 6694 copies), David Guetta ftg. Kelly Rowland 'When Love Takes Over' (No.15 to No.6 - 6620 copies), Linkin Park 'New Divide' (No.22 to No.7 - 6534 copies) and Hilltop Hoods 'Chase That Feeling' (No.16 to No.8 - 6361 copies). Labelmates The Script, Jessica Mauboy and Pink all dropped out of the top ten and Jordin Sparks increased her chart clout, heading 16 places upwards - 3703 copies of 'Battlefield' gifting her a No.18 position. The Gossip, with no local physical single of 'Heavy Cross' debuts at No.34 (up from No.59 last week) with 2120 sales, Snob Scrilla's song with no name debuts at No.41 (1770 sales), Green Day is in at No.44 with '21 Guns' (1628 sales) and La Roux simply tumbles into the top 50 with 'In For The Kill' (1447 copies sold).
Outside the top 50, there are debuts at No.61 for The Lonely Island's 'Dick In A Box' (1079 copies), No.88 for Basement Jaxx's 'Raindrops' (731 copies) and No.91 for Jet's 'She's A Genius' (700 copies).
ALBUMS : The Hilltop Hoods bagged over 27,000 copies of their new album 'State Of The Art' last week to hold the No.1 mantle. They do so again for a second week with week - but with less than half the number of albums sold. The album is now officially classified with GOLD sales accreditation for sales of 35,000 copies or more (not a bad effort in just two weeks), selling a further 12,145 copies in their second week. The Black Eyed Peas hold steady at No.2 with 'The E.N.D.' (9066 copies) as do Pink ('Funhouse' at No.3) and Lily Allen ('It's Not Me It's You' at No.4). There's a new entry at No.5 for the brothers Jonas - their new album 'Lines, Vines And Trying Times' debuting with 4892 sales, more than 2000 copies behind Lily Allen. It's 'debuts' all 'round for local outfit The Temper Trap debuting at No.9 with their debut album 'Conditions' (3670 copies). Unlucky for some, The Gossip debuts at No.13 with 'Music For Men' (3213 copies), while there are also debuts in the teens at No.16 (Dream Theatre's 'Black Clouds & Silver Lining' with 2695 copies) and No.17 (Alexisonfire's 'Old Crows/Young Cardinals' with 2620 copies). And the soundtrack to the explosive new 'Transformers' film pOps in at No.33 (1476 copies).

SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR : Me And My Imagination

As we patiently await a top ten UK chart debut for Sophie's new single, the collaboration with UK pOp gods Freemasons 'Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer', we take a look back this week at her criminally overlooked single 'Me And My Imagination'. Not only is the track totally pOptastic, but the clip (above) is bright, bubbly and decidedly fun. Appearing from an alleyway looking positively statuesque, Ms Ellis-Bextor parades her way glamorously along the footpath. But just as she's about to deliver us the catchier-than-Swine Flu chorus, everything does dark to reveal a sparkling neon luminescence. There were the Vogue-esque dance moves, glow-in-the-dark umbrellas (Santa didn't deliver that year) and a blatantly obvious nod to Sophie's gay following via the rainbow. Bright, colourful, sparkly pOp!

PAUL DEMPSEY BREAKS COVER

Something For Kate frontman Paul Dempsey has broken cover on his forthcoming album 'Everything Is True'. The album's first single 'Out The Airlock' was released in May, and was accompanied by a video featuring a miniature train set. The second single 'Ramona Was A Waitress' is scheduled to hit iTunes this Friday, with a limited edition physical single (featuring Paul's cover version of 'Bette Davis Eyes') due out on July 24. 'Everything Is True' is due into stores on August 14.

KISSCHASY : Generation Why

Aussie outfit Kisschasy has debuted the video for the first single from their forthcoming album 'Seizures'. 'Generation Why' starts out with everything surrounding the band being relatively blue. Blue TV, blue hatstand, blue guitars, blue telephone, blue chair, blue microphone, blue drumkit. You'd kind of expect the boys would love a little splash of colour with which to break the monotony of it all. As you can see from the image above, that's precisely what happens - at precisely 49 seconds into the clip, red paint begins to seep through the walls, out of books, out of Mother Mary. The band, clearly thinking that'd be about it with regards the red paint, has their attention broken by a news report on the television, which shows a house being covered in red. Still, they play happily along, oblivious that this red goop is about to attack. Then the television explodes and it's all over. They're gonna need one helluva hosing down after that.

GIRLS CAN'T CATCH : Keep Your Head Up

A lot's already been written about this sassy new girlgroup out of the UK. And now from the corridors of Fascination Records, the same record company who's brought us The Saturdays and Girls Aloud, come new trio Girls Can't Catch. In the picture, from left to right, meet Jess, Daizy and Phoebe - and in the video, catch their debut UK single 'Keep Your Head Up'. The clip is a curious blend of glam (the girls) meets grit (the setting) as the trio sets about defeating three rotten scoundrels (clean-shaven mummy's boys in Ed Hardy get-up) in a game of croquet. What else. But when it comes to the crunch, one of the boys can't seem to score through the hoop when it counts and the threesome pack up their mallets and balls and go home, tails between their legs. Glad pOp's back!

Five of Jackson’s solo albums – “Off the Wall,” “Thriller,” “Bad,” “Dangerous” and “HIStory,” all with Epic Records, a Sony Music label – are among the top-sellers of all time. During his extraordinary career, he sold an estimated 750 million records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Guinness Book of World Records recognized Jackson as the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time and “Thriller” as the Biggest Selling Album of All Time. Jackson won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Award’s Artist of the Century Award.

Michael Jackson started in the music business at the age of 11 with his brothers as a member of the Jackson 5. In the early 1980s, he defined the art form of music video with such ground-breaking videos as “Billie Jean,” “Beat It” and the epic “Thriller.” Jackson’s sound, style and dance moves inspired subsequent generations of pop, soul, R&B and hip-hop artists.

BEASTIE BOYS UNCOVERED

This is short and sweet, but could this be the first glimpse of the cover art for the forthcoming Beastie Boys album 'Hot Sauce Committee'? We've been sent this (somewhat small) packshot image by EMI Australia in addition to tracklist details for the new album, due in September. The album is the band's eighth.

FARWELL : Michael Jackson

The world is in mourning today following the sudden death of pOp superstar Michael Jackson this morning. He was just 50 years old. The King Of Pop collapsed and died at his home just after 6am local time from apparent heart failure and was unable to be revived. According to official reports, emergency workers at Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Centre tried in vain for an hour to resuscitate the singer.
His death comes just two weeks before he was due to take to the stage at London's O2 Arena in the first of 50 comeback concert dates at the iconic venue, and just two months out from his 51st birthday.
Michael Jackson's life was blessed with glittering highs and devastating lows. But amidst the controversies and his ever-changing appearance, there was no doubting the man's star power.
From humble beginnings, initial success came alongside his siblings as part of the Jackson 5 before, in 1972, he released his debut solo offering 'Got To Be There'. And while not as commercially successful as his later albums were to become, it pointed to an incredibly bright future in the music industry.
It was in 1979 when his Quincy Jones produced album 'Off The Wall' was released, that the world began to really sit up and take note of Michael as an artist in his own right. The album went on to sell more than 20 million copies throughout the world and spawned the mammoth hits 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' and 'Rock With You'.
Three years later, he released 'Thriller'. The 1982 chart-topper remains the highest selling album of all time, with almost 110 million copies sold in the 27 years since it's release. It's difficult to imagine the tally being bettered. It brought us the incredible iconic video for the title track, 'Billie Jean', 'Beat It', 'Wanna Be Startin' Something', 'The Girl Is Mine' and 'PYT'.
Sales success continued, though not to the same extent, with his 1987 album 'Bad' - it went on to sell more than 30 million copies throughout the world and brought us the singles 'The Way You Make Me Feel', 'Man In The Mirror' and 'Smooth Criminal' to name just three.
A seemingly new-look Michael Jackson took to our screens in the video for 1991's 'Black And White' - the first single from his eighth studio album 'Dangerous'. It's other singles, including 'Remember The Time' and 'Heal The World', adding to the number of classic songs in the singer's repertoire.
But by midway through the 1990s, dogged by child molestation claims, the shine was taken off the glimmering, well-oiled Michael Jackson machine. What followed in his personal life (two failed marriages, surrogate children and a constantly changing appearance) forever altered people's perceptions of the once mighty performer.
But with more than 1,000,000 tickets sold to his upcoming sell-out residency in London, there was no doubting that even until today, Michael Jackson fever was still well and truly alive. He was in the middle of a gruelling rehearsal regime when he passed away.
Ten studio albums, hundreds of millions of sales, countless sell-out concerts, inimitable dance routines, epic music videos and some of the most loved and recognisable songs in the world will all forever be part of Michael Jackson's incredible legacy.
He has left an indelible and unforgettable mark on popular music and his memory will live on for always in the hearts of those who knew his worth.
We bid a fond farewell to the King of Pop.

THE MJ NEWS

We've decided to wait for a little while before commenting on the developing Michael Jackson story this morning. We'll update this afternoon, but if the news filtering out of Los Angeles this morning is true, it's a very sad day for music.

SHE'S GOT US VV CONFUSED

Will the real VV Brown album packshot please stand up? The release of Island recording artist VV Brown's debut album 'Travelling Like The Light' has been delayed in the UK on a few occasions in the past few months (it's now due in late July). BUT, now the confusion really sets in, with TWO packshots for the same album. It would appear that the artwork above has now been superseded by the artwork below in readiness for the album's release. Sadly, we still like the original version (above)!

NEWS WRAP

* US rapper Ja Rule (pictured) is heading to Australian shores to play one show - at Sydney's Luna Park late next month. Tickets for the July 25 concert are now on sale, with the award-winning star being ably supported at the gig by Cristian Alexanda, Israel and DJ Nino Brown.
* Sony Music has sent another single from Natalie Bassingthwaighte's debut album '1000 Stars' to radio this week. 'Not For You' is the fourth track to be lifted from the LP.
* Also sent to radio this week is a previous top five UK hit in Agnes' 'Release Me'. The super-pOp single, born in Sweden, reached the top five in Britain earlier this month and is the first single to be lifted from her forthcoming album 'Dance Love Pop', due for Australian release soon.
* Meanwhile Matchbox 20 frontman Rob Thomas has secured the No.1 most played song in the country, knocking touring princess Pink from the mantle. Most Nova and Triple M stations added the track last week to get it over the line.
* And while it's not really our cup of pOp, Aussie rock outfit Children Collide have put together something altogether creative, altogether unique and something that we really thought worth mentioning. The clip for their new single 'Chosen Armies' has been filmed in 360Âş and is interactive! This means as the clip plays, you can move the camera around to find the angle that best suits you! It's very very clever. Check it out over at the band's OFFICIAL WEBSITE.

US NO.1 FOR THE JONAS BROTHERS

It seems that despite their star somewhat fading throughout the past six months, there's no slowing down the chart success of tween stars the Jonas Brothers, whose new album 'Lines, Vines And Trying Times' has claimed the No.1 spot on this week's Billboard album charts. The album sold just shy of a quarter of a million units in it's first week to take the top spot from the Black Eyed Peas. The album has also debuted at No.1 in Canada, Spain, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. 'Lines, Vines And Trying Times' will appear on the Australian charts this weekend, following it's local retail release last Friday.

SHELLEY HARLAND : Friday

We reckon it's no coincidence whatsoever that there's a collection of little red leaves falling at the beginning of the new clip from Shelley Harland - her album 'Red Leaf' is due into stores next weekend. But so begins a little glimpse into two very different worlds - those of a dark, sweaty and dirty foundry and a crisp, cool ice-skating rink. It would appear that along with having a successful singing career, Shelley passes her time working at both. However, she's not the only thing the two venues have in common. It's a cute little clip, with a slightly icy twist right at the very end. Why are people so unkind?

DAN IS THE NEW BLACK

Remember last year when we all seemed to be going gaga over Sam Sparro and his inspiring blend of electro-pOp? Well Mister Sparro may just have to watch his back - 'cause there's someone else who seems like he's primed himself to take over the pOp throne. Dan Black (pictured with his uber-cool cassette glasses) will release his debut album 'Un' next month in Europe and it's brimming with delicious pOp ditties that come resplendent with awesome, cleverly constructed video clips like the one for 'Symphonies' below. It's the kind of electro-pOp music that seems to be infiltrating the planet and Dan's timing for his album's release couldn't be more perfect. We highly recommend checking him out over at his OFFICIAL MYSPACE and tracking down a copy of his debut album 'Un' when it's released next month.

STRIKE A POSE

Given we've not been to the UK (criminally) for about ten years, we were completely unawares about the emergence of a new girl group. We thought that 'Vogue' was a style of dance, a classic Madonna song from the 1990s, or a fashionable magazine. But 'Vogue' is now a three piece dance/pOp girl band, featuring the vocal talents of Charlotte, Louise and Rachel. The girls have been busy supporting Cascada on their UK tour dates, but are about to step out from beyond Cascada's shadow to release their new single 'Twilight'. The clip, which you can apparently only see on the band's OFFICIAL WEBSITE, features hot bodies, hot beaches and a bit of fire-eating, all set to a fast-paced beat that wouldn't have sounded out of place earlier this century. Not bad.

SATURDAYS ART WORKS FOR US

We know they probably don't get thanked too much these days, but we feel we must give big props to team at Zip Design in the UK for their incredible work on the entire 'Chasing Lights' project. The Saturday's debut album officially comes to an end with the release of the girls' latest single 'Work', which hits UK stores next Monday. The cover (above) is another classy offering and continues on with the theme of the artists themselves being in black and white, with slight differentiation through the use of colourful accessories (be they dresses, hats, halter belts or in this case shoes). So hats off to the team at Zip!

TOURING : Sarah Blasko

Australian songstress Sarah Blasko is readying herself for the release of her brand new album 'As Day Follows Night', due into stores early next month. But she's also announced that she's eager to hit the road to showcase the album's contents to her devoted fans. Eight shows have been scheduled as part of the October/November tour, including three dates at Perth's 'The Quarry' in mid-November. Tickets for all dates go on sale on Friday July 03.

October 01 : Castlemaine (Theatre Royal)
October 02 : Melbourne (The Forum)
October 03 : Adelaide (Norwood Concert Hall)
October 09 : Sydney (Enmore Theatre)
October 10 : Brisbane (The Tivoli)
November 12 : Perth (The Quarry)
November 13 : Perth (The Quarry)
November 14 : Perth (The Quarry)

NEWS WRAP

* Maps' debut album 'We Can Create' was one of the most beautiful, criminally under-exposed electro/pOp albums in recent years, so we're very excited to report that EMI has today reported that the British performer (real name James Chapman) will release a brand new album, 'Turning The Mind' in Australia on September 25.
* Sony superstar Beyonce has scored the No.1 most added song to radio in the past week with her new single 'Sweet Dreams'.
* Calvin Harris has 'tweeted' the completion of his forthcoming album 'Ready For The Weekend'. The Scottish producer excitedly reports that it's "the best thing I've ever done in my whole life". It's due for release in the UK on August 17. No word yet on an Australian release date.
* The girls from Electrovamp have given fans on their OFFICIAL MYSPACE a 30 second taster of what to expect from their forthcoming single 'Something To Tell Your Friends About'.
* And will we be seeing a bit of La Roux in the Aussie top 50 next week? The duo's single 'In For The Kill' moved up seven spaces on this week's ARIA singles chart to sit just three places outside the top 50. Gossip's 'Heavy Cross' jumped to No.59.

INTRODUCING DEYA DOVA

We were quite taken when we recently saw the eye-catching imagery for the new single by South Australian-based artist Deya Dova. And fear not - the creative team behind the look didn't starve the singer-songwriter of oxygen to achieve the look above - nor did they use all kinds of digital trickery. They simply painted her blue. And the colour seems to have been integrated throughout the new project - from some of clothes Deya wears in her live shows to the OFFICIAL WEBSITE to the cover of the single. Speaking of, 'Kyio' is Deya's debut single and is lifted from her forthcoming third album 'Burst' - an album that looks set to take her in a slightly new musical direction. While the singer's previous albums have been somewhat experimental in sound, Deya's new material takes her in a more dance/electronic direction. The digital-only single features three remixes which sit alongside the slightly more down-tempo album version - infused with a more tribal/chill spice.
Deya has also just been announced as part of the line-up for this year's Splendour In The Grass festivals across the country.
While we're not sure whether painting oneself blue will catch on to the masses, we're sure that there'll be plenty of interest in what looks like a most interesting and beguiling artist.

Grab hold of Deya's single at iTunes HERE.

THE NERVOS WAIT IS OVER

The spunky young minxes (left) are Melbourne's Nervo girls, Olivia and Miriam. Over the past few years, they've been putting pen to paper, writing some of the most delicious pOp gems on the planet, gradually making their way to the top of the charts the world over. But the girls are celebrating wildly right now as their co-penned track 'When Love Takes Over', released by David Guetta and Kelly Rowland, has hit the top of the UK singles chart. They knocked off last week's No.1, Pixie Lott, to claim the top spot. We're gonna try our darndest to track Liv and Mim down in the coming weeks for a natter. Stay tuned. But in the meantime, we're sending our love and congratulations to them!

AQUA AUSTRALIS

No, it's not some kind of strange new boutique bottled water, it's our strange little way of saying... 'Look what pOpped up on the Universal Music Australia release schedule today!'
Yes, it would appear that the team at Universal has decided to release the new Aqua best-of down under. The album, which has just been released in Europe, looks set to get an Aussie release in the first week of September. The tracklisting features all the big hits including 'Barbie Girl', 'Doctor Jones', 'Turn Back Time' and 'Cartoon Heroes' as well as three brand new recordings, among them the single 'Back To The '80s'. It's currently set down for a September 04 instore date.

CHART WATCH

A new number one on the official album chart this week knocks off the Black Eyed Peas, but is the US band in danger of knocking itself off the pole position over on the singles chart?
SINGLES : The Black Eyed Peas reign again on the official Australian singles chart this week with their single 'Boom Boom Pow' notching up a seventh week on top. 12,241 copies of the first single from their 'The E.N.D.' set were sold last week to keep them at No.1. BUT, there's a strong challenge to their No.1 mantle - and it's coming from within the Black Eyed Peas camp. Second single 'I Gotta Feeling' has rocketed into the No.2 position after debuting last week at No.8. It sold 10,512 copies in the week. But the really big mover into the top ten has been Lady Gaga. Her latest single 'Paparazzi' isn't even on physical single yet and is already making it's charge towards the top, bulleting eleven places this week to sit at No.3 (8715 sales). Rob Thomas's single 'Her Diamonds' seems to have run out of steam a bit, dropping down to No.8 after just four weeks in and Jessica Mauboy debuts at No.9 with her new single 'Because' (5277 copies - 800 of which were physical). The Pussycat Dolls have another top ten hit on their hands with the disco-fied 'Hush Hush; Hush Hush' hitting No.10 (up five places), while Eminem drops ten places from No.2 to No.12. Elsewhere, there are moves up from Taylor Swift ('You Belong With Me' No.18 to No.13 - 4937 sales), David Guetta ftg. Kelly Rowland ('When Love Takes Over' No.19 to No.15 - 4563 sales) and Linkin Park ('New Divide' No.29 to No.22 - 3120 sales). Further down the list, Jordin Sparks' new single 'Battlefield' comes in at No.34 (2115 sales) and Hoobastank's duet with Vanessa Amorosi sees them pOp in at No.44 (1573 copies). Just outside the top 50, there are debuts at No.51 for Wes Carr's 'Fearless' (1271 sales), No.66 for Ironik's 'Tiny Dancer' (1015 copies), No.76 for Bliss 'N' Eso's 'On Tour' and No.78 for Nikki Webster's comeback single 'Devilicious' (792 sales).
ALBUMS : The Hilltop Hoods have slammed their way into the No.1 position with their brand new album 'State Of The Art'. The album outsold the No.2 artist (Black Eyed Peas) by more then two to one (27,455 copies as opposed to the Black Eyed Peas' 11,803 copies). It's an outstanding result with very solid sales. Lily Allen is back up a couple of positions (No.6 to No.4 this week with album 'It's Not Me, It's You' (7335 sales), while Lady Gaga's 'The Fame' re-enters the top ten at number ten with 3636 sales. Katy Perry's 'One Of The Boys' moves up ten places to No.12, while Incubus debut in the No.20 position with new album 'Monuments And Melodies' selling 2251 copies. Chickenfoot emerges at No.50 with their self-titled album (739 copies). Pink's albums, meanwhile, continue to dominate the charts - with various titles and packages this week sitting at Nos.3, 8, 17, 22, 34, 44 and 56.
