GIRL THING : Girls On Top
There were just two little words stopping Girl Thing from becoming the international pop sensation they should have; Spice Girls. It must be said that it's a miracle at all that the Girl Thing project got the go-ahead at all while the world was under the Spice-spell. But given Virgin had all things Spice, BMG wanted some of the action, so they assembled five girls (one even had ginger hair), put them in the studio with some tip top pop producers and released a truly amazing pop album that would've succeeded if it weren't for those two aforementioned words. 'Girls On Top' was Girl Thing's 'Who Do You Think You Are' - bouncy, up-tempo pop music with an infectious chorus, plenty of 'ooh-ooh's, and a dance routine that looked like an update of 'The Hustle'. It was pop at it's purest, from an album bubbling with plenty of pop nuggets (including the original version of a track that was to go on to become a No.1 single for Popstars winners Hear'Say, 'Pure And Simple'. Classic pop stuff.
